GNR Colonel José Luís dos Santos Alves entered the Military Academy in 1994 and completed the GNR Armas course – Infantry specialty in 2000. He served as Platoon and Public Order Company Commander in the Infantry Regiment and Commander of the Territorial Detachment of Idanha-a-Nova and Castelo Branco. He was also a teacher and instructor at the Military Academy and the Guard School. In 2018 he was appointed 2nd Commander of the GNR Territorial Command in Lisbon and in 2019 he served as legal advisor to the Secretary of State for Civil Protection of Timor-Leste for three years. He has been working at the IUM for two years, having served as GNR Liaison Officer to the IUM, Coordinator of the GNR's Specific Teaching Area, Coordinator of the Internal Security and Criminal Phenomena Studies Area, in addition, and Teacher of the GNR's Specific Teaching Area. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Law and a Master's degree in Law and Security. He is married and has two children.
