Visiting professor in the Department of Economics at Universidad Carlos III and a Associate Researcher at IPRI-NOVA. She obtained her Ph.D. from University College London in 2003. Her primary research has focused on labor economics topics (minimum wages, Foreign Direct Investment productivity spillovers, and the role of firms in labor market polarization). She has received funding for her research from the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia and the Economic and Social Research Council. Her work has been published in prestigious academic journals such as The Review of Economics and Statistics and The European Economic Review. Before joining Universidad Carlos III, she was an associate professor (term) at Barnard College, Columbia University. Additionally, she has taught at University College London, Yale University, and the School of Social Work of Columbia University. She has taught extensively in various subjects, ranging from the theoretical foundations of political economy, inequality and poverty, social exclusion, welfare policy, happiness, environment, sustainability, and the interaction between culture, ethics, and economics.
