PhD candidate in International Relations at NOVA FCSH/ IPRI-NOVA, with extensive professional experience in conflict and post-conflict scenarios. After working on development programs in Madagascar and Afghanistan, she joined international organisations in the response to refugee/ IDP-related emergencies, mainly in West and Central Africa and the Middle East. Furthermore, Ana Carina conducted independent evaluations for the United Nations, but especially the European Union (EU), namely of EU's financing instruments such as the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace and its predecessor, the Instrument for Stability. She was also the reporting officer of EU's Common Security and Defense Policy civil mission in Somalia. Ana Carina holds a degree (licenciatura) in Political Science and International Relations from the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (Portugal) and a Research Master’s Degree in International Relations from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium). She is currently researching on peace and security in Africa and preparing for her doctoral thesis on EU external action in peace- and state- building through a comparative study between Somalia and Mali.
