She obtained her PhD at the Department of International Relations of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Alice Cunha

Alice Cunha is Assistant Professor with Habilitation in International Relations at the NOVA University of Lisbon – School of Social Sciences and Humanities (NOVA FCSH), and Researcher at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations (IPRI-NOVA).

Ana Santos Pinto

Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Studies, NOVA University of Lisbon, integrated researcher of the Portuguese Institute of International Relations (IPRI-NOVA), and Research Fellow in the National Defense Institute (Portugal).

Ângela Benoliel Coutinho

Associated researcher at IPRI-NOVA and CEIS20 – Coimbra University. She has obtained her PhD in Contemporary African History by the University of Paris I – Panthéon-Sorbonne, in 2005.

António Horta Fernandes

Professor, Department of Political Studies, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Researcher at IPRI-NOVA. Strategist and polemologist.

António Alexandre

Integrated researcher at IPRI-NOVA and regularly collaborates with the Military University Institute, the National Defense Institute, and the Atlantic Center. Captain of the Portuguese Navy (retired). Participated in various naval operations in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas and the Indian Ocean. Obtained his PhD in International Relations from NOVA FCSH. 

Bernardo Pinto da Cruz

Bernardo Pinto da Cruz, PhD in Global Studies, with a thesis about the socioeconomic effects of Portuguese villagization in Angola (FCT scholarship) . He has a MA in Political Science and is co-author of Políticas Coloniais em Tempo de Revoltas (2016).

Brígida Brito

Integrated reseracher at IPRI-NOVA, Brígida is associate professor at the Departament of International Relations at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, subdiretor of OBSERVARE and editor of JANUS.NET, e-journal of international relations.

Camila Rodrigues

Bachelor’s degree in sociology, master in European studies, PhD in political science (FCSH-UNL). Currently manages a collaborative network of female entrepreneurs which gathers over 100 000 members (Mulheres à Obra).

Carla Fernandes

Researcher of the IPRI-NOVA. She is Graduated in History and Social Sciences by Minho University, Master in Chinese studies by Aveiro Universit and as a doctorate in international relations by Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of New University of Lisbon.

Carmen Fonseca

Executive Director of IPRI-NOVA and Assistant Professor (with Habilitation) in the Department of Political Studies at NOVA FCSH. From 2008 to 2024, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Relações Internacionais journal.

Catarina Mendes Leal

PhD in Political Science and International Relations, a Master in Public Management, 2 postgraduate degrees - in European Studies and other in Advanced Studies in Public Administration and a Degree in International Relations.

Catherine Moury

Associate Professor with Habilitation at NOVA FCSH, Catherine's research focuses on institutional change in the European Union and on comparative policy-making, about which she has published in journals such as the European Journal of Public Policy, West European Politics and Party Politics.

Cátia Moreira de Carvalho

Integrated researcher at IPRI-NOVA. Her research interests focus on extremism, radicalization processes, and migration. Her doctoral thesis explored some of the reasons behind the absence of Islamist-inspired violent radicalization in Portugal.

Cláudia Generoso de Almeida

With a PhD in Political Science, Administration and International Relations, Cláudia is Integrated Researcher at IPRI-NOVA and Invited Assistant Professor at ISCTE-IUL, collaborating with the Centro de Estudos Internacionais do ISCTE-IUL.

Daniel Cardoso

Integrated researcher at IPRI-NOVA, he is an Associated Professor in the International Relations Department at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, where he coordinates the BA program in International Relations. With a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from the Free University of Berlin, he was a post-doctoral researcher at IPRI-NOVA (2016-2019), Visiting Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (NOVA-FCSH) and at the Faculty of Economics, Universidade de Coimbra, and Visiting Researcher at Fudan University, Shanghai (2011-2012).

Daniel Marcos

Integrated researcher at IPRI-NOVA, holds a PhD in Modern and Contemporary History, with Specialization in History of International Relations in the Contemporary Period, by ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (2011).

David Castaño

With a PhD in Modern and Contemporary History, David is an integrated researcher at IPRI-NOVA, and a member of the institute's Board and Executive Council. Invited professor at the Department of Political Studies at NOVA FCSH.

Diogo Ramada Curto

Historian, with a PhD in Sociology by NOVA University of Lisbon. Integrated Researcher at IPRI-NOVA, Diogo is full professor at the Department of Political Studies, NOVA FCSH, and was Professor of the Vasco da Gama Chair at the European University Institute, Florence (2000-2008).

João Cancela

Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Studies at NOVA FCSH since 2021. Previously, he was adjunct lecturer at the University of Minho (2017-2019), Phd scholarship holder from FCT (2013-2017) and policy officer at the High Commission for Migration (2012-2013).

Jorge Tavares da Silva

PhD in International Relations with a specialization in International Politics, Conflict Resolution from the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra.

José Pedro Teixeira Fernandes

With a PhD in Political Science and International Relations, he is Coordinator Professor at ISCET - Instituto Superior de Ciências Empresariais e do Turismo and Lecturer at ISCAP - Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto.

Luís Tomé

Integrated Researcher at IPRI-NOVA, he is Full Professor at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, where he is Director of the Department of International Relations and of its research unit OBSERVARE-Observatory of Foreign Affairs.

Madalena Meyer Resende

Assistant Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Political Studies, NOVA University of Lisbon, and IPRI-NOVA researcher. President of the Portuguese Political Science Association, holds a PhD in Political Science from the London School Economics & Political Science (2005).

Marco Lisi

Assistant professor in the department of Political Studies, NOVA University of Lisbon and researcher at IPRI-NOVA. His research interests focus on political parties, electoral behaviour, democratic theory, political representation and election campaigns.

Maria João Valente Rosa

PhD in Sociology, specialization in Demography (1993), by NOVA FCSH. Assistant Professor at NOVA FCSH's Department of Sociology, held several public positions between 2000 and 2009, in the Education and Science Ministries.

Nuno Severiano Teixeira

President of the Portuguese Institute of International Relations (IPRI-NOVA), Full Professor of International Relations at NOVA University of Lisbon and former vice rector of NOVA University of Lisbon (2013-2017). Holds a PhD in History of International Relations by the European University Institute, Florence.

Patricia Daehnhardt

Researcher at the Portuguese Institute for International Affairs (IPRI-NOVA) and Assistant Professor in International Relations, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Lusíada University. She holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Paula Borges Santos

Principal Researcher at IPRI-NOVA and invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra. Former coordinator of the Justice, Regulation and Society Research Group at the Institute of Contemporary History (2015-2020). She participates in various research projects in Spain and Brazil and has published extensively on: authoritarian institutions and policies, democratic transition, constitutional history, politics and religion. 

Pedro Emanuel Mendes

Holds a PhD in International Relations from FCSH at Nova University, a Master in European Societies and Policies from ISCTE and a degree in International Relations from Lusíada University.

Pedro Tavares de Almeida

Full Professor of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, NOVA University of Lisbon, and member of IPRI-NOVA's board of directors. His research focuses mainly on elite recruitment and attitudes, electoral systems and behaviour, and state-building.

Raquel Vaz-Pinto

Integrated Researcher at IPRI-NOVA and Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Studies, NOVA FCSH. Has worked and published about Chinese foreign policy and strategy, US grand strategy and Asia-Pacific, among other research areas. 

Reinaldo Saraiva Hermenegildo

Major at the National Republican Guard, Professor in International Relations Theory, Strategy, Geography, Internal Security Studies and scientific coordinator at the Military Academy in Lisbon.

Rui Branco

Associate Professor (with Habilitation) at the Department of Political Studies, NOVA University Lisbon, and a senior researcher at IPRI-NOVA. His research focuses on comparative social and labour market regimes and policies.

With a PhD in International Relations from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (NOVA FCSH), Sónia is Invited Assistant Professor at NOVA FCSH and Assistant Professorat Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa.
