"The 'return of the people'? Assessing the evolution of notions of peoplehood in Western Europe across a critical decade (2008-2017)"
Friday, March 17 | 12:30 - 1:30 PM
Room 3.11, Colégio Almada Negreiros, Campolide campus, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa
Presentation: Roni Küppers, PhD candidate, London School of Economics
Discussion: João Gaio e Silva, PhD candidate, NOVA FCSH & IPRI-NOVA
Roni's work indicates the existence of "6 distinct typologies of peoplehood", which "effectively are associated to different types of political behaviour." It also shows "their characteristics are consistent between the 2008 and 2017 samples, casting doubt over the assumption that we are experiencing a 'return' of the people in a qualitative sense, even if their prevalence and political salience have shifted in relevant ways".
