The main objective of this course is to study the global phenomenon of populism and its relationship with changes in contemporary democracies. The sessions aim to offer an exhaustive overview of old and new populisms, allowing students to acquire theoretical and practical tools for analyzing this phenomenon. In this sense, one of the goals of the course is to understand the variety of populisms and the factors that determine the emergence and success of these new actors. The course also aims to stimulate reflection on the implications of populism at an international level (inside and outside the European Union), as well as on the transformations of political systems and public policies.
