On 6th and 7th July, IPRI-NOVA hosted the second MedThink 5+5 Forum, on “Stabilising the Western Mediterranean through inclusive social and economic development”.

The event, co-organized with European Mediterranean Institute of Barcelona and 5+5 Network, gathered a number of decision makers and researchers that debated the current situation in the Mediterranean, the common challenges, and the solution for a deeper and more effective cooperation model among the states of the 5+5 Dialogue (Algeria; Spain; France; Italy; Libya; Malta; Morocco; Mauritania; Portugal; Tunisia).

The opening session included the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Augusto Santos Silva, the Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union, Taïeb Baccouche, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Spain, Ildefonso Castro, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Jorge Borrego.

A year after launching the MedThink 5+5 Network, there is still an unexplored potential to promote research and analysis about regional cooperation under the 5+5 Dialogue, taking into account the conclusions of the 13th Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Western Mediterranean Forum.
