A few hours before the third and last debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, IPRI-NOVA launched the 51st number of International Relations, a special issue on the USA presidential elections. This issue of the journal is edited by Raquel Vaz-Pinto (co-author of Hillary Administration) and the articles topics range along the lines of Obama’s legacy for international politics, what is at stake for Portugal in the context of the Pacific and Atlantic U.S. strategy, the American electoral system and how the primaries impact on the choice of the candidate, and the origins of candidates like Donald Trump that are not a complete novelty in the American history.
The special guest of the event, that took place at the Luso-American Foundation for Development (FLAD), was the Ambassador of the United States of America in Portugal, Robert A. Sherman, who gave a talk titled «2016 U.S. Presidential Elections: The Race for 270», a detailed explanation of the American electoral system. It was chaired by FLAD’s President, Vasco Rato, and IPRI-NOVA’s Director, Nuno Severiano Teixeira.
